SEMIH GONEN

Semih Gonen is an Assistant Professor at Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya (UPC-BarcelonaTech). He received his B.Sc. degree from Middle East Technical University (2011) and M.Sc. from a joint Erasmus Mundus masters on the Structural Analysis of Monuments and Historical Constructions (SAHC) from Czech Technical University in Prague and UPC-BarcelonaTech (2012).

He worked as a bridge engineer and consultant before obtaining his Ph.D. degree from Bogazici University (2020). He also conducted postdoctoral research at Oslo Metropolitan University and UPC-BarcelonaTech between 2021-2023.

His expertise is in structural dynamics and his research activity is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach to structural engineering problems, forming connections among boundaries of diverse research fields, specifically focusingon structural health monitoring (SHM) and damage detection in complex structures, seismic structural reliability, experimental testing, advanced numerical simulation of the seismic behavior of masonry and special structures, and also using machine learning (ML) techniques as a support tool.
