ROLANDO CHACÓN FLORES
Dr. Rolando Chacón Flores is an associate Professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, his research combines advanced inelastic analysis of steel structures with applied studies on the real behavior of steel, concrete, and composite bridges. His work integrates structural analysis, BIM-based geometric models, simulations, and data-driven methods within digital twins. He has contributed to developing digital twins for over 15 infrastructures across Europe, including bridges, buildings, and industrial facilities. As an educator, he founded the Laboratory of Digital Models for Structures and Construction at the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering, promoting innovative teaching in civil engineering. His research has informed standardization efforts in CEN TC250 through ECCS TC8 and TWG 8.3, and he is an active member of CEN/TC 442/WG 9 Digital Twins and CEN/TC 250/AHG AI Design of Steel Structures.
He has received several distinctions, including the EUCEET European Award of Excellence in Civil Engineering Education (2021), the UPCNET-UPC David Luque Award (2013), and the Eurosteel Best Young Researcher Award (2008).
